Nutritional Therapy

Additional Information

“Let food be your medicine and let medicine be your food.”
 Hippocrates, 390 AD

Nutritional therapy is an evidence-based complementary approach which uses diet, life-style and, occasionally, nutritional supplements to encourage the body’s natural healing and immune processes, boost energy levels, improve mental well-being and help achieve ‘optimum health’.

By ‘optimum health’ we mean much more than just an absence of illness.  It is a state of profound physical, mental and emotional wellbeing combined with abundant energy and vitality.

In order for your body and mind to function at an optimum performance you have to provide them both with the correct amount of nutrients.  Most of us know that a good diet is important, but what is a ‘good diet’?

A ‘good diet’ will be different for every people as we all have a unique physical and physiological make-up. Nutritional therapy helps us to understand this better but is much more than just giving general advice on healthy eating.

We all have individual requirements for nutrients, based on our genetic make-up, our environment and our life-style. A nutritional therapist will aim to find out the underlying cause of any symptoms.  A full health ‘fact find’ will be undertaken including information on family background, any previous illness, use of over-the–counter and prescribed medication, as well as current diet and life-style. From this a professional nutritional therapist can then design a personal programme that is right for you and help you achieve and maintain ‘optimum health’.

Nutritional therapy is excellent as a preventative tool for good health, but can also be beneficial for many health issues such as allergies, digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, fatigue, depression, stress, weight control and skin disorders.
